Manship School of Mass Communication Residence College Opening in the fall of 2010


Experience
An exciting, new program in one of the most dynamic colleges on campus, The Manship School of Mass Communication – Jackson Hall, will be opening in the fall of 2010. This residence hall has been specifically designed to offer an educational and social community for the next generation of journalists, public relations, advertising, and political communication professionals. Residents in the Manship School resident halls will have the opportunity to engage in activities that will strengthen both their educational and professional careers.

Features
ˇ Residents will have priority scheduling for their mass communication classes as well as having the opportunity to take a variety of courses (MC 2000, etc.) within the residence hall itself.
ˇ A tutoring program for AP style and structure as well as a variety of programs designed to help students become better communicators.
ˇ On-site academic advisor and classrooms for specially designed professional development seminars and classes.
ˇ A one-on-one mentor via the Manship Match to help new residents adjust to college life both socially and educationally.

Part of the mission of the Manship School of Mass Communication Residential College is to help acclimate students to the diversity of the mass communication field. Manship faculty and staff will conduct a variety of special seminars on topics such as résumé writing and business etiquette to give students a head start in the professional environment. In addition, student organizations such as ABC and PRSSA will hold their meeting in the residence hall. The program is open to first- and second-year students (or any undergraduate international exchange students). All participating students must live in Jackson Hall in the Pentagon complex.
