Admission
- Applications are available online, from the Manship School assistant dean and counselor, the Manship School main office, and from University College counselors.
- Application deadline is 4:00 p.m. on the Friday of the final week of classes of the semester in which the student completes the requirements 30-hours of course work and earned a "B" or better in MC 2010 (Media Writing).
- Students may apply in the semester in which they will meet the requirements.
- Applications for admission to the Manship School must be submitted directly to the School's main office on the second floor of the Journalism Building.
- The School's Application Review Committee will notify applicants of admission decisions prior to the first day of class each semester.
- Students who are denied admission may reapply in subsequent semesters. There is no limit on the number of times you may apply.
Admission Requirements
LSU Students
LSU students must complete the following before their application will be considered:
- 30 hours of college-level course work.
- Earn a grade of “B” or better in MC2010 (Media Writing).
- Students with a 3.00 LSU grade point average and a 3.00 cumulative grade point average will be given admission priority on a space available basis.
- Grade point average is the primary factor for admission, but secondary evaluative criteria will be considered.
- 250-word essay on development and career goals.
Transfer Students
Transfer students must complete the following before their application will be considered:
- Complete a minimum of 12 hours of courses on the LSU A&M campus with at least a 3.00 LSU grade point average.
- Complete 30 hours of course work (including hours earned at LSU as well as college-level hours earned elsewhere and transferred to LSU)
- Earn a grade of “B” or better in MC2010 (Media Writing). or its equivalent.
- Transfer students with a 3.00 LSU grade point average and a 3.00 cumulative grade point average will be given priority for admission on a space available basis.
- Grade point average is the primary factor for admission, but secondary evaluative criteria will be considered.
- 250-word essay on development and career goals.
Requirements for Minors in Mass Communication
- Students may be admitted as a minor in mass communication after completing 30 semester hours of coursework with a 3.00 G.P.A. and at least a "B" in MC2010 (Media Writing).
- The Manship School's minor is a general minor in mass communication that includes six courses.
Notes on Admission
The size and composition of the Manship School applicant pool each semester sometimes allows consideration of students whose GPA is below but near the 3.00 GPA level. Therefore, students who feel that they might otherwise qualify for Manship School admission but whose GPA falls below 3.00 are nonetheless encouraged to consider applying for admission.
Manship School Undergraduate Application
Students who entered LSU at the beginning of the Fall 2001 semester and after and who wish to major in mass communication are required to apply for admission to the Manship School of Mass Communication.

Student Responsibility
The Manship School of Mass Communication holds some basic expectations of all students enrolled in its major, minor and general courses. Manship School students are expected to be:
- Proficient in the use of English.
- Proficient in keyboarding. This proficiency should be acquired before students enroll in MC 2010 (Media Writing).
- All written assignments must be keyboarded or typewritten.
- Students are responsible for obtaining computer use oustide of Manship labs.Computers are provided in Manship School labs. LSU provides access to computers in labs across campus.
- Manship School majors must earn at least a "C" in any mass communication course (other than MC2010), and students will not be allowed to enroll in a mass communication course unless they have earned at least a "C" in all prerequisite mass communication courses (other than MC2010, which requires at least a "B".)
Students are responsible for meeting with Manship School counselors to be sure they are on track for graduation. We recommend meetings each semester.
