Louisiana State University Police Department

The LSU Police Department serves Louisiana State University by providing effective and professional law enforcement to the university community. At various times during the year, the Department seeks applicants who are interested in a law enforcement career. This process is normally done through advertisement in local media services and through the LSU Job Link. Postings for these vacancies are announced periodically through these services. The Police Officer 1-A position requires the applicant to take the L.E.A.P.S. - One Year
(Series 7500) examination administered by Civil Service and possess the following:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

No specialized experience or training is required.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Must have attained eighteenth birthday at time of appointment.

An applicant who has been convicted of a felony or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal law is granted.


The
Police Officer 2-A position requires the applicant to take the L.E.A.P.S. - One Year (Series 7500) examination administered by Civil Service and possess the following:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:


One year experience in full time law enforcement work.

SUBSTITUTIONS:


College training may be substituted for the required experience on the basis of thirty semester hours for the year of experience.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:


Must have reached eighteenth birthday at time of application.

An applicant who has been convicted of a felony or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal law is granted.

NOTE:


Examples of experience accepted as law enforcement service are police officers commissioned with the power of arrest, military police and deputy sheriffs.

Examples of experience not accepted as law enforcement service are correctional officers and private security guards.

EMPLOYEE BENEFITS:

New higher level starting pay. Annual pay increases. Plus, time and one half overtime for hours worked in excess of a regular 40 hour pay period.
