Campus Call Boxes

LSU has tamper resistant phones near the entrances to most dorms and many other buildings which will allow you to make an on campus call or contact the Police by Dialing 911.

Campus Transit - LSU-5555 (578-5555)
To help protect students who need to reach a particular destination on campus after dark. Campus Transit Service established by the LSU Student Government and administered through the LSU Department of Parking, Transportation and Traffic, operate two (2) radio dispatched 10 passenger vans from 5:30 pm-3:00 am seven days a week (except holidays) when school is in session.
Campus Transit is based in the Public Safety building and the drivers have immediate radio contact with the LSU Police should they see a problem or need assistance with one of the vans.

CrimeStoppers
LSU works in conjunction with the Baton Rouge Crime Stoppers which serves the community as an informant interaction system whereby the public is invited and encouraged to provide valuable information that might lead to the arrest and possible conviction of criminals. Participants who call the Baton Rouge CrimeStoppers hotline at (225)389-3361 remain anonymous.

Lighting

The University spends $80,000 a year adding and maintaining lighting on campus. Night walking tours are conducted by administrators and students several times a year to determine which areas require lighting repairs and which areas need additional illumination.

The department has engravers available free of charge to students so that they may engrave identifying numbers in such valuables as TV's, Stereos, Bicycles, or any item that does not have a unique serial number.

R.A.D.

R.A.D. Systems balances the needs of women to acquire self defense education in a relatively short period of time, with the life long commitment required for physical skill mastery. How? By providing short term training opportunities in a progressive building block format, and combining each with R.A.D.'s trademark Lifetime Return and Practice Policy! Only a unified, extensive network can provide this service honored nationwide and throughout Canada. R.A.D. Instructors share life saving information with confidence, knowing that their lessons will be continuously reinforced for a lifetime!
The LSU Police Department has R.A.D. certified Instructor's on staff and routinely instructs classes through the LSU Wellness Education Center. The department encourages members of the university to take advantage of these valuable classes.

Safety and Rape Awareness Week / Substance Abuse Awareness Week
The LSU Police Department, in conjunction with the Department of Residential Life, The Wellness Center of The Student Health Center, and the Office of Student Services, participate in presenting these two safety weeks annually. Additionally these departments routinely work together in presenting joint programs throughout the year on personal safety, security of property, crisis intervention, and crime prevention.
