On behalf of the dedicated professionals of the Louisiana State University Police Department it is my pleasure to welcome you to the Police Department home page. The Louisiana State University Police Department is committed to providing a safe and secure learning environment in which our faculty and staff can prepare our students for academic success now and career challenges in the future.
The safety and well being of our students, faculty, staff and visitors is our paramount priority. We are committed to building collaborative partnerships for the betterment of our entire community.
Under the authority of Louisiana Revised Statutes, LRS 17:1805, the Louisiana State University Police Department is operational 24 hours a day, 365 days of the year. Police Officers are always on duty to respond to calls for service. All Police personnel are commissioned University Police Officers by the Louisiana State Police and they are assigned to various law enforcement duties. The Uniform Patrol Division fields a motorized patrol force of 24 police patrol cars and 6 police motorcycles. An additional 6 police mountain bicycles are used by officers of the Bicycle Patrol Unit in the daily patrol operations of the department. The Special Services Division offers specialized police services in numerous campus facilities and research areas. The Special Services Division also offers specialized crime awareness programs geared to raise awareness of crime occurrences, to offer crime prevention tips, and crime awareness talks as requested. In addition to these Divisions, the LSU Police Department maintains a highly trained and productive Investigative Unit. LSU Police Investigators conduct follow up criminal investigations, possess specialized investigative techniques, and conduct computer forensic services in support of police investigations. Members of the Investigative Unit work closely with other local, state, and federal agencies to insure up to date distribution of crime trends and to enhance their own investigative skills and resources. By combining all of these personnel resources and the pro-active crime awareness programs, the LSU Police Department is able to discharge the duties and responsibilities of the law enforcement mission.
On this page, you will find very useful information concerning safety, crime prevention tips, crime awareness and the steps you can take to reduce the occurrence of criminal activity. It is our sincere hope that your visit to our site will provide you with information that will be of benefit to you as you visit LSU or become involved with the University as a student, faculty member, employee or visitor.
The LSU Police Department stands ready to serve the needs of the University community. If you need assistance, please let us know. We will do our very best to provide you with the service that you would expect from a professional law enforcement agency.
Again, welcome to the Louisiana State University Police Department.
Gary Durham, Interim Chief of Police
