National Expert on Student Leadership, Development to Speak at LSU

11/18/2004 11:31 AM
Susan R. Komives, nationally recognized scholar in the areas of student leadership and development and a professor at the University of Maryland, will speak at LSU on Friday, Nov. 19, at 8:30 a.m. in the Union Cotillion Ballroom.

As a contributing author in “Learning Reconsidered: A Campus-Wide Focus on the Student Experience,” Komives explores “transformative education” – a “new map” that seeks to identify and leverage innovative learning experiences and outcomes. The intent is to create educational environments and practices that simultaneously address the cognitive, affective and behavioral development of all students.

Komives’ presentation will be of interest to faculty, staff and students working in the areas of learning outcomes, general education, assessment, curriculum design, experiential learning, learning communities, internships, developmental theory and leadership studies. Her talk will also offer suggestions for campus collaboration and partnering to make more effective use of resources and support.

Her lecture is sponsored by the LSU Office of Student Life and Academic Services.

For more information, contact Granger Babcock, Student Life & Academic Services, at 225-578-8602.
