LSU Mechanical Engineering Students Showcase Final Projects May 1
Projects include wind turbines, hang gliders and a lunar rappelling rover, among others

BATON ROUGE – LSU mechanical engineering students are showing off their hard-earned knowledge and skills during a final project exhibition on Friday, May 1, from 1 – 5 p.m. in the Patrick F. Taylor Building’s Engineering Courtyard. Media are welcome to attend.

Projects scheduled to be presented include:
  • Formula SAE-2009
  • Vertical Axis Wind Turbine (VAWT)-2009
  • Flexible Fuel Gas Micro-Turbine
  • Lunar Rappelling Rover
  • Mini Baja-2009
  • High Lift Aircraft for SAE Aero Design
  • Thermocouple Analysis for Cryogenics
  • LSU Hurricane Tower-Storm 2.0
  • Hurricane Missile Cannon & Chamber
  • Shell Eco-Marathon-2009
  • Portable Tire Washer/Shredder
  • Large Area, Temperature-Controlled Multiple Unit Die (LAMUD)
  • LSU Flugtag
  • Manually Controlled Continuously Variable Transmission (MCCVT)

All these industrial or research projects have been supervised by LSU College of Engineering faculty advisors in consultation with industry partners or sponsors. These student projects are completed in groups of two to 10 students, and on average, participants have spent more than 1,000 hours per project to generate original design ideas, fabrications, testing and validations.
