LSU Continuing Education Offers Youth Summer Programs for K-6th Graders Throughout July
New Sessions Begin July 6

06/29/2009 12:46 PM
BATON ROUGE – Throughout the month of July, LSU Continuing Education will offer summer youth programs designed specifically for elementary school children, from kindergarten to sixth-graders. Students receive instruction in academic subjects including mathematics, social sciences and art. These summer youth programs are offered on the LSU campus and vary by grade levels, dates and times.

LSU Continuing Education’s 2009 Summer Youth Programs for K-6 graders include:

Kindergarten Camp, July 6-24, is a three-week camp designed to prepare pre-school children entering kindergarten for the routines and work habits of the classroom. Children will participate in whole group, small group and individual experiences that are engaging and educational.

Camp Challenge, July 13-17 and July 20-24, courses are designed to provide a rich learning environment for academically talented grade students in from kindergarten to the sixth grade. Courses introduce curriculum concepts and then explore specific topics at a level not commonly achieved in the regular classroom environment. Children can participate in exciting learning experiences with similarly motivated peers and skilled teachers. Instructors are selected based upon their educational backgrounds, certifications, teaching experience and expertise in their field.

Youth Academy, July 6-17, allows students entering first through sixth grades the chance to review subjects they may have had difficulty with during the previous year, or preview courses they may take in the fall. These classes promote skill development and build confidence for future academic success. Classes are non-credit and grades are not assigned.

Parents can register their child for any of these youth programs at http://outreach.lsu.edu/Pre-College/default.asp or call DeShonda Coleman, program coordinator, at 225-578-7143 for more information.
