LSU Business Seminars Teach Marketing and Sales Strategies for Today’s Economy

08/25/2009 03:24 PM
BATON ROUGE – The LSU Continuing Education Professional Development Program will hold a series of business seminars with two of the seminars – “Getting the Marketing Results You Need in Today’s Economy” and “Selling Effectively in Tough Times” – beginning in September. These two seminars will teach how to use alternative marketing and sales strategies to build and grow a business in today’s economy. The interactive seminars are instructed by business expert E.J. Smith and will be held Sept. 1 and Sept. 2 on the LSU campus in Pleasant Hall.

“Getting the Marketing Results You Need in Today’s Economy,” to be held Sept. 1, will improve participants’ ability to learn what creates value in a customer’s mind during these difficult times, develop and implement true customer-based marketing strategies and develop the best tools and strategies that a sales team needs to be successful. Participants will also learn from the point-of-view of a customer and what differentiates their company and its products or services from its competition.

“Selling Effectively in Tough Times,” to be held Sept. 2, will teach participants how to use enhanced fact-finding techniques to move customers down the sales process, how to win the confidence and trust of prospects, how to develop a master plan to manage the sales process and how to productively manage time, territory and sales calls to get results.

“These seminars are designed for Louisiana business owners, sales professionals and marketing professionals who are having difficulty adjusting to today’s struggling economy,” said Lisa Verma, program manager for LSU Continuing Education. “The September seminars mark the beginning of several business-related workshops held throughout the fall by the LSU professional development program.”

Additional seminars are scheduled for October and November.

E.J. Smith, MBA, has more than 20 years experience in strategic planning, sales, sales management and operations management in telecommunications, high-tech healthcare, food processing and other industries. Smith earned his MBA from the University of Cincinnati. He is a Certified Strategic Planner and a National Career Development Association Certification Instructor Facilitator and a Job Performance Improvement Coach.
