General Information
Five years ago, LSU released the first version of its current strategic plan. Since that time, the University has made significant progress in pursuing the objectives set forth in the University Planning Document and in the plans by which the various divisions, colleges and schools, and administrative departments have been charting their courses. LSU still faces tremendous challenges to the vision we embraced of becoming a nationally-competitive flagship institution.
It is critical that we join as a community to create a dialogue that results in initiatives to address these challenges. To begin this dialogue, we have planned a series of meetings that focus on the flagship agenda and what future commitments must be made to move LSU into the next tier.

On December 5th, deans, directors, and department chairs; administrative
unit heads; development officers; and Faculty Senate, Staff Senate, and
Student Government executive committee members met to begin discussions
about LSU's national Flagship agenda. This dialogue will continue to
develop during the spring semester with the intent of identifying actions
for us to pursue over the next seven years, culminating in 2010, LSU's
150th anniversary.
At the Chancellor's Forum on January 15, Chancellor Emmert will meet with
the LSU faculty, deans and department chairs in the new, 1000-seat
Campbell Auditorium. After presenting information about LSU's current
performance and peer comparisons, the Chancellor will open the floor to a
dialogue about initiatives LSU must pursue to achieve national flagship
status. Additional meetings for faculty, staff and students will be
planned throughout the spring.
To allow university-wide participation in these discussions, a new flagship
website has been set up at www.lsu.edu/flagship to keep you updated on
campus activities. You will find the initial reactions of those
participating in the December 5th retreat posted at this site along with a
copy of the Chancellor's presentation (accessible using your PAWS account).
Comments can be made in the Discussion Board (accessible using your PAWS
account).
We welcome and encourage your suggestions.
