 | Quality Enhancement Plan
(See hyperlink to the Plan below)
LSU is one of a select group of institutions in an Expanded Pilot group to use the new Principles of Accreditation of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) as it seeks reaffirmation of accreditation. The university's accreditation is reaffirmed every 10 years by the Commission. LSU's review will culminate with a determination of reaffirmation by the Commission in December of 2004. Information about the reaffirmation process is available on the LSU website at http://www.lsu.edu/sacscoc.
The new Principles of Accreditation are based on the following:
1) fostering a strong culture of institutional integrity;
2) enhancing the quality of an institution's programs and services within the context of its
missions, resources, and capacities; and
3) creating an environment in which teaching, research, and learning occurs.
Primary components of the new Principles are the Compliance Certification which was submitted to SACSCOC last August and the Quality Enhancement Plan.
The Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP) takes the place of the traditional Self-Study prepared for past reaffirmations. The QEP is “…to lead to a course of action for institutional improvement by addressing a question or questions that contribute to institutional quality with special attention to student learning” (Principles of Accreditation, 2001). The QEP is intended to be an outgrowth of the institution's ongoing planning and evaluation process related to its institutional mission. The QEP supplements the institution's ongoing, integrated, institution-wide planning and evaluation processes and is not intended to supplant or replace these ongoing processes.
Recommendations for action in the QEP are based on dialogue from the initial development of the Flagship Agenda, discussions of the Leadership Team, and the work of the Flagship Study Groups. Input will continue to be sought from all areas of the LSU community including alumni and members of the LSU Board of Supervisors. The QEP will be submitted to the SACSCOC On-Site Team in March 2004. As shown in the Action Plan Timeline, the QEP began in fall 2003 and will run concurrently with the Flagship Agenda to 2010. Implementation of the QEP will continue to evolve with dialogue and discussion and with input from members of the SACSCOC On-Site Review Team who will visit the LSU campus April 27 – 29, 2004. Because the QEP is a plan and not a static document, it will be flexible and subject to modifications.
