The mission of the CFFS is to promote original interdisciplinary scholarship and cultural initiatives on different aspects of the French-speaking world, in partnership with other research centers. The CFFS supports a multidisciplinary network of scholars in Francophone studies. It stimulates interdisciplinary research at LSU by according grants to researchers who are directing research projects with objectives that correspond to the thematic programs of the Center. In dialogue and in partnership with different international organizations and French-speaking countries, the CFFS actively pursues external funding to develop and ensure the completion of its projects. The CFFS is also a documentation center that acquires and then stores within its library literary works and textual, photographical, audio, video, and film documents on Louisiana and different French-speaking countries.
The research objectives and cultural agenda of the CFFS are centered on three thematic priority programs:
• Francophonie in Louisiana and North America
• The Cultural Diversity of the French-Speaking World
• La Francophonie in the Developing World
The Francophonie in Louisiana and North America program’s objective is to increase the influence of the French language in Louisiana and to encourage the promotion of studies on the representations of the French-speaking world in North America and in the Caribbean. It supports scholarly findings impacting the development of cultural and linguistic practices, the publication of such findings, and the diffusion of documents whose subject matter is primarily about Louisiana and North American civilization.
The goal of The Cultural Diversity of the French-Speaking World is to promote research projects that focus on cultural diversity within French-speaking countries on an international scale. Moreover, it promotes research activities focusing on the different representations of the Francophone culture in an international context (Quebec, Canada, Belgium, Switzerland, France, Senegal, and Haiti) as wells as the development of projects favoring dialogue between French-speaking countries and other linguistic regions.
La Francophonie in the Developing World program seeks to expand research on international Francophonie and its issues at the global level, particularly in developing countries where French is prevalent as the mother tongue, the official language, or the heritage language. It encourages research in all disciplines (environment, agriculture, law, social sciences, hard sciences, humanities, arts) in regions such as central Africa, western Africa, the Maghreb, Southeast Asia, and Haiti. In order to develop its network of scholars as well as support these priority programs, its mission as a documentation center, and the financial aid of its research and cultural activities, the CFFS strives to maintain active partnerships with various cultural, economic, and political associations in Louisiana. It takes initiatives in matters of research and documentation tied to the historic and linguistic specificity of French in Louisiana, ensuring its longevity for future generations.
The CFFS organizes conferences, colloquia, and research workshops on its thematic programs, issues calls for proposals to its entire network of scholars, and disseminates the findings of the projects it sponsors financially. It collaborates closely with several international institutions (the French-Speaking University Agency, the AUF Bureau of the Americas, and the International Organization of la Francophonie), and the consular representations of French-speaking countries (the Consulate General of France in New Orleans, Cultural services of the French Embassy in Washington, the Bureau of the Community Wallonie-Bruxelles in Louisiana, the Delegation of Quebec in Atlanta, the Canadian Consulate in Dallas, etc). The CFFS is currently expanding its network to French-speaking countries in the developing world.
Le CEFF: son mandat et ses programmes
Le CEFF a comme mission de promouvoir des initiatives académique et culturelle originales sur les représentations de la Francophonie en Louisiane et aux niveaux national et international en partenariat avec d’autres centres de recherches. Il encadre un réseau pluridisciplinaire de chercheurs en études francophones et stimule la recherche interdisciplinaire à LSU en accordant des subventions aux chercheurs de son réseau qui dirigent des projets de recherche dont les objectifs correspondent aux programmes thématiques du centre. En dialogue et en partenariat avec différentes d’organisations internationales et des pays francophones, le CEFF poursuit une politique de bailleur de fonds pour développer et assurer la mise en œuvre de ses initiatives. Le CEFF constitue également un centre de documentation qui acquiert et conserve des ouvrages littéraires et des documents textuels, photographiques, audio, vidéo, filmiques sur la Louisiane et différents pays francophones dans sa bibliothèque de référence.
Les objectifs de recherche et l’agenda culturel du CEFF sont axés sur trois programmes thématiques prioritaires.
• Francophonie en Louisiane et en Amérique du Nord.
• La diversité culturelle de la Francophonie.
• La Francophonie dans le monde en développement.
Le programme Francophonie en Louisiane et en Amérique du Nord a comme objectif d’accroitre le rayonnement du français en Louisiane et d’encourager la promotion d’études sur les représentations de la francophonie en Amérique du Nord et dans les Caraïbes. Il soutient la production scientifique ayant un impact sur le développement des pratiques culturelles et linguistiques, la publication de travaux et la diffusion de documents portant principalement sur la Louisiane et la civilisation nord-américaine.
L’objectif du programme La diversité culturelle de la Francophonie est de promouvoir des projets de recherche portant sur la diversité culturelle au sein des pays francophones à l’échelle internationale. Il vise également la promotion d’activités de recherche portant sur les différentes représentations de la culture francophone dans un contexte international (Québec, Canada, Belgique, Suisse, France, Sénégal, Haïti) et la conception de projets favorisant le dialogue entre l’espace francophone et les autres aires linguistiques.
Le programme La Francophonie dans le monde en développement vise à développer des activités de recherche sur la francophonie internationale et ses enjeux au niveau mondial tout particulièrement dans les pays en voie de développement og le français est présent comme langue maternelle, d’usage ou d’héritage. Il encourage la recherche dans tous les domaines (environnement, agriculture, droit, sciences sociales, sciences de base, humanités, arts) dans des régions telles que l’Afrique centrale, l’Afrique de l’ouest, le Maghreb, l’Asie du sud-est et les Caraïbes. Afin de soutenir ses programmes prioritaires, de développer son réseau de chercheurs, sa mission comme centre de documentation ainsi que le soutien financier de ses activités de recherche et culturelles, le CEFF s’efforce de maintenir un partenariat actif avec les différentes associations culturelles, économiques et politiques Xuvrant en Louisiane. Il prend des initiatives en matière de recherche et de documentation liées à la spécificité historique et linguistique du français en Louisiane et, le cas échéant, en assure la maîtrise d’Xuvre.
Le CEFF organise des colloques, des conférences, des ateliers de recherche sur ses programmes thématiques, lance des appels de projets à l’ensemble de son réseau de chercheurs et diffuse la recherche des chercheurs qu’il soutient financièrement. Il collabore étroitement avec plusieurs institutions internationales (l’Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie, le Bureau des Amériques et l’Organisation internationale de la Francophonie) et les représentations de pays francophones (le Consulat Général de la Nouvelle Orléans, les services culturels de l’Ambassade de France à Washington, le Bureau International Wallonie-Bruxelles en Louisiane, la Délégation du Québec à Atlanta, le Consulat Canadien à Dallas, etc). Le CEFF élargit actuellement ses réseaux en direction des pays francophones en développement.
