Celebrate Mardi Gras "à la Française"
The soirée will feature classical and contemporary music, tarot readings, fine desserts, board games, dance and the last appearance of the Queen of France.
Guests are required to wear a mask and a costume (from, or prior to Marie-Antoinette's era). A costume contest will crown the most regal outfits.

- SCLA conference, 21-23 October 2010, at the Baton Rouge Hilton Hotel. Call For Papers.

- Foreign Language Film Conference, 7-9 October 2010, at LSU. Call For Papers.

- VISIONS: A Tribute to Yves Saint Laurent. Fundraiser fashion show, Friday 30 April, 7 pm at the Camelot Club, organized by Jean-Xavier Brager. This year's Fashion Show will feature local designers and boutiques, and also serve as a model and designer competition. RSVP required; seats limited. Each year the Fashion Show generates scholarship money that helps send one prize-winning student to France or a Francophone destination.

- Departmental Awards Ceremony: Wednesday May 5, 2010, 4.30 pm in the French House Grand Salon. Undergraduate and Graduate awards, followed by a reception.


The Department of French Studies Graduate Association hosted its 4th Annual Graduate Student Conference, Significant Readings, on March 12-13, 2010.

The keynote speakers for the conference were Dr Tom Conley (Harvard U), "An Errant Eye: Topography and Poetry in Renaissance France," and Dr Zsuzsanna Fagyal (U Illinois), "Sounds and symbols; phonetic reflexes of adolescent peer-group affiliation."

In October 2010, LSU will host the 4th-Annual Foreign Language Film Conference, on the topic of "Genre(s)." The conference is organized by Professors Rosemary Peters (LSU) and Véronique Maisier (SIU Carbondale), sponsored in part by the Department of French Studies, the Program in Film and Media Arts, and the College of Arts & Sciences.
