Hands-On Gardening
Day Camps
JMG, developed by the University Cooperative Extension Network, is a highly successful program that introduces young gardeners to the fun, art and science of gardening. The LSU Hilltop Arboretum offers the program in a series of holiday and summer day camps from 9 am - 1 pm to provide the maximum opportunity for working families to participate. Each camp focuses on different hands-on gardening activities from eight chapters of the Junior Master Gardener Program.

Summer Camp
~ 9 am-1 pm ~
June 13 - June 17, 2011
Program Fee for 5 days: $125 members, $160 non-members (includes $35 annual membership)

We say bloom where you are planted and happy gardening! Sign-up today for the Junior Master Gardener Summer Day Camp scheduled for Monday -Friday, June 13th – 17th from 9am – 1pm for young gardeners ages 7-10. Join us and you’ll have fun learning how to grow different kinds of vegetables and herbs and plant a container garden to take home. You’ll find out about what’s bugging you and your plants by exploring the world of insects and plant diseases. And finally you’ll learn more about you, your friends and your community, and discover how to make plans for your future.

Louisiana Master Gardeners and Junior League of Baton Rouge volunteers are working together to prepare the activity centers and guarantee the children will grow a green thumb and have fun doing it. Children who participate will be eligible for Junior Master Gardener Chapter Pins: Chapter 4 (Beetle Bug), Chapter 7 (Corn Cob) and Chapter 8 (Compass).

Register early, space is limited and fills up quickly. For more information call 225-767-6916, or register online at www.lsu.edu/hilltop. Nutritious snacks will be provided throughout the day. Parents will provide a brown bag lunch and drink.

JUNIOR MASTER GARDENER CERTIFICATION

Don’t forget. To become a certified Junior Master Gardener – a very prestigious accomplishment – a child must complete the activities from eight chapters in the program handbook. The activities required for certification will be offered at Hilltop in a series of three day camps that will be held in the fall, spring and summer.

All activities will take place at the LSU Hilltop Arboretum
11855 Highland Road
