Higher education has been identified as a high risk environment for data breaches and potential identity theft. Unlike corporations, university networks must remain open to enable research and academic inquiry. That said, universities are challenged not only to protect their data, but to respond to the inevitable disclosure of private information. Over the last year, numerous colleges, government agencies, and corporations have had to address the aftereffects of a data breach. LSU wants to mitigate the impact of a potential breach on the LSU community.

Through a special arrangement with Equifax, all current LSU employees and students may register for a credit monitoring service. LSU community members will be able to actively monitor their credit in order to protect themselves from identity theft and credit fraud.
