Louisiana Scholastic Journalism Institute
The LSJI provides high school students the opportunity to visit the LSU campus and student media in a one-week course that includes workshops, presentations from experts and faculty and the opportunity to work in professional-level labs and production facilities.
Students learn new skills, get hands-on experience and discover techniques they can put to work on their publications and broadcasts. This dynamic program includes workshops, production projects, guest speakers and field trips to local newspapers and broadcast stations in Baton Rouge. |

What students get:
Students build skills to improve their school’s newspapers, broadcasts and yearbooks. The program gives rising sophomores, juniors and seniors the chance to live on campus, study with LSU instructors, and sample college life. They get experience with the state-of-the-art newsgathering and news production facilities at the Manship School, as well as a chance to work with experts in the field and media professionals. They also have an inside look at what it would be like to study journalism at LSU. |
The 2010 LSJI will be held June 6-11.
Application deadline is May 1, 2010. |
Cost and Scholarships
The cost of the program is $300.00 per person, which includes:
- housing on campus
- meals
- activities on and around campus
- materials to conduct the activities and projects
Scholarships to the program are made possible by the Louisiana Press Association and the Louisiana Association of Broadcasters. |
