| Grants.gov has deployed their new submission system which will utilize Adobe PDF forms for grant applications, as opposed to the PureEdge files previously used. However, not all organizations have begun using the newly deployed Adobe Forms. Use of Adobe Forms for grant applications will be on a case by case basis, depending on the sponsor, until all sponsors have adopted using the Adobe system.
Completing the Adobe grant application package is very similar to completing the PureEdge file. Once the application package is downloaded PIs will enter information using Adobe Reader version 8.1.1. When complete, PIs will load the saved PDF file into the SPS system for internal routing and approval. Further instructions and a brief tutorial regarding completing Adobe PDF Grants.gov Application Packages can be found on the Grants.gov website here:
http://www.grants.gov/flash/AdobeReaderApplicationTutorial_skin.swf
Also, a free version of Adobe Reader 8.1.1 can be downloaded here: http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2_allversions.html
Adobe Reader version 8.1.1 is the required version of Adobe Reader by Grants.gov. We have discovered that if a grant application package is created using a different version of Adobe Reader than the version used by OSP, an error will occur during the submission process. Therefore, PI’s must utilize Adobe Reader 8.1.1 for the completion of Grants.gov applications.
