PAWS SERVICES
Services available to all PAWS accounts.

Account Information
Customize your PAWS desktop by altering the name that appears on your desktop and by choosing the default application that will appear when you enter your PAWS desktop. Also, displays account specifications such as your email address, logonid, email server, SMTP server (data necessary to use IMAP) and the size of your email file. Path: Desktop > "Account"

Announcements
Find out the latest PAWS applications to be offered and what applications we are working on. Path: Desktop > "News"

Directory Information Lookup
Search for addresses, phone numbers, and e-mail addresses of people associated with LSU via the University's on-line, real-time Directory System. All faculty and staff are available. However, only currently enrolled students can be accessed. Anyone not wishing to publish this information over the internet can set that preference from the Directory Information update application. Path: Desktop > "Directory Information" > "LSU Directory"

Directory Information Update
Update all LSU personal information from one link. Keep your email and mailing addresses current. If you choose, you can also have some or all of your personal information, including your name, withheld from the Internet, the printed LSU phone directory, or from other types of inquiries. Path: Desktop > "Personal Preferences" > "Directory Information"

Email
Communicate with colleagues using your PAWS email account. Keep track of your class schedule and appointments with the calendaring function. Path: Desktop > "Mail"

Email Forwarding
Forward your PAWS mail to another email address. If you wish to stop your PAWS email from forwarding to another address, you can also clear the forwarding from this application. Path: Desktop > "Personal Preferences" > "PAWS Email"

Frequent Questions
Locate answers to questions frequently asked about Personal Access Web Services (PAWS). Path: Desktop > "FAQ" or PAWS Home Page > "FAQ"

Help
Context-sensitive help links. Depending on where you are when you click this link you will be sent to a document that gives you pointers on that particular area of PAWS. You may also obtain help from the Office of Computing Services Application Support Center by calling 334-APPL (334-2775).

Password Maintenance
Change your PAWS password. This change is immediate for the main PAWS server, but may require several hours to take effect for the entire system. If your new password does not work, use the old one until the new one can propagate entirely. Path: Desktop > "Personal Preferences" > "PAWS Password"

Personal Address Book
Store your own email addresses. Add a link to your address book from your email database for easy reference. Path: Desktop > "Address Book"

PAWS Desktop
Change the name that is displayed on your desktop or the application that launches in the right frame. Path: Desktop > "Personal Preferences" > "PAWS Desktop"

Personal Web Page
Create or modify a PAWS personal web page. Display your creativity and "express yourself" to the LSU community. Path: Desktop > "PAWS Page" > "PAWS Page Design"

View the version of your PAWS web page that is being published to the PAWS Page Directory. Path: Desktop > "PAWS Page" > "View PAWS Page"

Also, peruse the personal pages that have been published by other PAWS users. Path: Desktop > "Directory Information" > "PAWS Page Directory"

Ride Share
Ride Share is a web application dedicated to transportation options such as mass transit and carpooling to help improve the air quality in the greater Baton Rouge area. It features a rideshare matching utility that allows LSU faculty, staff, and students an opportunity to do their part in improving the air quality by forming carpools with others that live in nearby areas and have similar schedules. Path: Desktop > "Campus Community" > "Ride Share"

Ticket Exchange
An electronic billboard for students, faculty, and staff to post available ticket information on all manner of events and to provide proper contact information. Individuals are responsible for setting up the actual transactions on their own and should do so in a safe and secure fashion. Path: Desktop > "Campus Community" > "Ticket Exchange"

Services available to persons taking courses.

Additional Services
Students may register for additional services, such as Parking, Meal Plans, and Tiger Cash. Path: Desktop > "Registration Services" > "Additional Services"

Bursar Account Balance
Students and employees now have the ability to view the current balance on their account with LSU. This information is similar to that found on the monthly billing statement produced by the Office of Bursar Operations, but reflects your up-to-date information . This application also provides you with the ability to pay your account balance on-line using a credit card. Path: Desktop > "Financial Services" > "Billing Statement"

Course Offerings
Discover which courses are being offered for the next or previous semesters. Other information such as the time, place, and instructor is also available. This application is also available to the entire campus from the Records and Registration web site. Path: Desktop > "Registration Services" > "Registration Information" > "Course Offerings"

Deferred Payment/Payroll Deduction
Students now have the ability to select deferred payment and payroll deduction for a specific semester via PAWS. The deferred payment plan allows eligible students to defer up to 1/2 of their current semester charges for a $15 service fee. Graduate assistants and regular university employees may elect to pay their fees through payroll deduction. Please refer to the Schedule Booklet for details on these two payment options. Degree Audit
Undergraduate and law students no longer have to go to their dean's office to obtain a copy of their degree audit. View a copy of the report for your current major and catalog. Also,choose from all current undergraduate degree programs offered by the University. The resulting degree audit will show how your courses would potentially apply to the selected program. Path: Desktop > "Student Services" > "Degree Audit"

Degree Program
Students in the Center for Freshman Year can declare or change their degree program on-line without consulting an advisor. Students will be able to choose a major and in some cases, a concentration. Path: Desktop > "Student Services" > "Degree Program"

Direct Deposit
Students and employees now have the ability to request direct deposit of payroll, student financial aid, credit balance refunds, travel reimbursements and other non-payroll university reimbursements. This application may also be used to update current bank information. Path: Desktop > "Financial Services" > "Direct Deposit"

Fee Bill
Obtain your current fee bill information with the option to apply credit card payments. Path: Desktop > "Registration Services" > "Fee Bill"

Final Grade Report
Students may use this PAWS application to request a final grade report from the University for the current or just completed semester. If grade reports are needed for prior semesters, please use the Transcript Request application to request a copy of your official transcript. Path: Desktop > "Student Services" > "Final Grade Report"

Final Grades
Check your final grades online. Current and previous semester grades are available. Path: Desktop > "Student Services" > "Final Grades"

Financial Aid
View your TOPS and DISBURSEMENT status. TOPS enables you to determine if and when your funds have been received from the Louisiana Office of Student Financial Assistance and credited to your account in the Office of Bursar Operations. DISBURSEMENT enables you to determine if and when funds from the federal programs (Pell Grant, Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant, Perkins Loan, Stafford Loan, and Parent Loan) have been received and credited to your account in the Office of Bursar Operations. Path: Desktop > "Financial Services" > "Financial Aid"

Graduation Date
Students can now update their anticipated date of graduation online. If there is more than one pending degree on file, students may choose to update one or all of their anticipated dates of graduation. Certain dates selected may require that they see their counselor in their Dean's office. Path: Desktop > "Student Services" > "Graduation Date"

Independent Study
Review the status of correspondence courses, including specific assignment grades, as well as other general information. Path: Desktop > "Student Services" > "Independent Study"

Law Course Offerings
Determine the availability of law courses being offered. View course time, location, and instructor. This application is available from the desktops of Law faculty, staff, and students. Path: Desktop > "Registration Services" > "Law Course Offerings"

Midterm Grades
Check your midterm grades for the current semester. Path: Desktop > "Student Services" > "MidTerm Grades"

Personal Schedule
View and print your schedule for the current semester. If you forget your fee bill at home or change your schedule, check here for the latest version. Path: Desktop > "Registration Services" > "Personal Schedule"

Psychology Experiments
Sign up to participate in psychology experiments. In order to be eligible for extra credit, you must currently be enrolled in a psychology class, and the instructor of this class must have informed you that you may earn extra credit. Path: Desktop > "Student Services" > "Psychology Experiments"

Sample Tests
Current students may now search a database of old tests and download them in PDF format. This application has been sponsored by the Student Government. Path: Desktop > "Student Services" > "Sample Tests"

Schedule Request
Add/drop courses and view available sections of specified courses. Path: Desktop > "Registration Services" > "Schedule Request"

Semester Book
The Semester Book comprises several key modules. The Personal Data module allows students to view personal data and change their e-mail address. The Grading Scale module allows students to view the grading scale information for the course. The Assessment Performance module allows the student to see the assessment performance for each assessment. The Materials module allows the student to view materials the Instructor has approved for display. The Communication module provides for on-line discussion between the instructor and students. Other features include a bulletin board for announcements and tools for sending e-mail to the instructor. Path: Desktop > "Student Services" > "SB Semester"

Student Housing
Students now have the ability to get information about their Residential Life application online. Included in this service is the ability to view their current housing application as well as reapply for housing. Path: Desktop > "Student Services" > "Student Housing"

Teacher Profile
Students can now use the web to answer questions about their teacher's course materials, teaching methods, syllabus, and accessibility. Profiling of teachers will take place until the last day of exams and the application can be found under the Student Services category. Path: Desktop > "Student Services" > "Teacher Profile"
Teacher Profile Results
This new application will allow users to know what an instructor requires and their style of teaching before scheduling a course. Teachers profile results are updated nightly and can be found under Registartion Services. Path: Desktop > "Registration Services" > "Teacher Profile Results"
Training Seminars
LSU Computing Services offers free computer training seminars throughout the semester for LSU faculty, staff, and students. All seminars are free and require prior registration, as classes fill quickly and are on a first-come, first-served basis. Registration may be accomplished online via the Help Desk web site or via the PAWS Training Seminars link. Path: Desktop > "Computing Services" > "Training Seminars"

Transcript Request
Any PAWS users who have previously enrolled on the LSU Baton Rouge campus may electronically request two free official transcripts per day. Path: Desktop > "Student Services" > "Transcript Request"

Services available to course instructors.

Class Roster
Allows instructors to request an electronic class roster file for their current courses. The file contains each student's name, ssn, classification, and email address. Request this application from the Course Tools site. Path: Desktop > "Instructional Support" > "Class Roster"

Course Offerings
Discover which courses are being offered for the next or previous semesters. Other information such as the time, place, and instructor is also available. e-Learning Resources
The resources and references on the e-Learning Resources site are provided to support students, faculty, and administrators in the electronic learning environment. They will be helpful in the design and distribution of course materials, the facilitation of teacher-student and student-student communications, and the administration of courses and programs in the web-based environment. e-Learning Services
The e-Learning Services site allows instructors to learn more about the on-line tools available through Computing Serives to help manage their courses. Currently, instructors can choose to post course grades electronically, obtain on-line class rosters, and manage course content using Semester Book or Blackboard. From the e-Learning Services Web site instructors can also request to post their grades on PAWS, register for training classes, and read answers to questions frequently asked about Computing Service's e-Learning services. Graduate Assistantship Announcements
LSU Faculty and Staff responsible for graduate assistantships can publish assistantship information for graduate students to the Web. Path: Desktop > "Campus Community" > "Graduate Assistantships"

Leave Certification
Academic and professional employees electronically acknowledge their leave usage during a pay period. Path: Desktop > "Employee Resources" > "Leave Certification"

IMS/TSO Account Request
This application is available to all faculty members who wish to request an IMS/TSO Mainframe account. Path: Desktop > "Computing Services" > "IMS/TSO Account Request"

National Teaching & Learning Forum Online Newsletter
The on-line version of The National Teaching & Learning Forum is a national newsletter provided by the LSU Center for Faculty Development to University faculty and graduate teaching assistants. The self-described purpose of the newsletter is to provide subscribers with "insight from colleagues eager to share new ways of helping students reach the highest levels of learning." Path: Desktop > "Instructional Support" > "NTLF Online" > "Site License Subscribers"

Post Grades
Faculty members and instructors with PAWS accounts who wish to post mid-term and final grades electronically must submit a request to do so. By making this request, you will no longer receive printed grade sheets. Instead, the Post Grades application will appear on your PAWS desktop for the first time during final exam week. To request the Post Grades application, use the Course Tools link found under Access Faculty Resources. Path: Desktop > "Instructional Support" > "Post Grades"

Semester Book
The Semester Book comprises several key modules. The Student module allows for the loading of class rosters, including e-mail addresses, into the faculty member's Semester Book via a real-time transaction accessing mainframe data. The Grading Scale module allows for the establishment of number and weights of assessments in computing course grades. The Assessment module stores the students' grades on individual exams, quizzes, homework, and projects. The Materials modules provide for the distribution of the syllabi and other materials as documents, file attachments, or URL links. The Communication module provides for on-line discussion between the faculty member and students. Other features include a bulletin board for announcements and tools for sending e-mail to an entire class or established groups within a class. Request this application from the Course Tools site under Instructional Support. Path: Desktop > "Instructional Support" > "Course Tools"

Once you have received a Semester Book, you can find it directly under Instructional Support. The semester book links following the naming convention of the current semester appended to "SB". For example, "SB Spring 2001". Path: Desktop > "Instructional Support" > "SB Semester"

LIBRARY RESOURCES
All eligible students, faculty, and staff will find these links on their desktops. Constituents of the Law Center will have access to resources provided by the Law Library.

Off-Campus Access
Obtain a user name (or logonid) and password which is required if you are attempting to access indexes, databases, and journals from off-campus. You will beprompted for this information because use of these products is limited to LSU Students, Faculty, and Staff only. Path: Desktop > "Library Resources" > "Off-Campus Resources"

Electronic Reserves
Access reserved class reference materials which have been scanned into a digital format and are available to the LSU community. Every PAWS account will have access to this database but only participating classes will have applicable materials available. If you would like your class to participate in this program, please call the Middleton Library Reserve Desk at 388-3216. Path: Desktop > "Library Resources" > "Electronic Reserves" or PAWS Home Page > "Public Applications" > "Electronic Reserves"

Indexes and Databases
Search a wide range of online indexes and full-text databases. You can go to a list of Indexes and databases arranged by subject or alphabetically by the title of the database. Path: Desktop > "Library Resources" > "Indexes and Databases"

Louisiana Library Catalogs
Browse on-line university library catalogs from around the state. Path: Desktop > "Library Resources" > "Louisiana Library Catalogs"

LSU Electronic Thesis and Dissertation Initiative
The Graduate School, the LSU Libraries, and the Office of Computing Services have jointly implemented an application for submitting theses and dissertations electronically. This application is the required method of submitting theses and dissertations to the Graduate School. Path: Desktop > "Library Resources" > "Theses and Dissertations"

EMPLOYEE RESOURCES
Services available to LSU Employees

Benefits
LSU employees now have access to a detailed statement of benefits that includes the value of both the employee's and LSU's contributions for insurance, retirement and leave payment at separation or retirement. The benefits statement is an estimate, so it may not accurately reflect benefits changes the employee has made during the year. Employees with questions or concerns about the information on their benefits statement may contact HRM's Benefits Service Center at 578-8200. Path: Desktop > "Employee Resources" > "Benefits"

Payroll Deposit Information
LSU employees now have the ability to view their payroll deposit tickets on-line. The electronic version of the deposit ticket will contain the same information as the paper copy and will be available for viewing approximately two days prior to the actual payday. This feature will contain an archive of deposit ticket information and eventually employees will be able view up to 18 months of information. Path: Desktop > "Employee Resources" > "Payroll Deposit Slip"

Digital Library
In establishing the LSU Digital Library, Louisiana State University hopes to make available to all citizens its rich repository of information. LSU recognizes the need to capture the intellectual
property that exists with the work of its distinguished faculty and other institutional assets such as library special collections and archives. Once in electronic form, this valuable information can be more widely disseminated, enriching the lives of many citizens throughout the campus and beyond. This library aims to serve the needs of the research community, state officials and students without requiring their presence on the LSU campus. Students Online Using Resources Centered on Education (SOURCE)
SOURCE is an asynchronous technology site that provides a unique learning environment. This site delivers a wide variety of educational and academic tutorials, as well as access to campus resources that make it a great "source" for students at LSU.
