Dr. Marybeth Lima named recipient of national Ernest A. Lynton Award

Dr. Marybeth Lima, associate professor of Biological and Agricultural Engineering, is the 2005 recipient of the Ernest A. Lynton Award for Faculty Professional Service and Academic Outreach. This prestigious national award honors a faculty member who connects expertise and scholarship to community outreach.

Through her service-learning classes, Dr. Lima has worked alongside her undergraduate students to design and construct "dream playgrounds," butterfly gardens, and even an outside classroom for elementary school students. Working with community partners and teachers, her goal is to build a safe playground that is equally accessible to physically challenged children for every public school in East Baton Rouge Parish.

Dr. Lima was recently presented with the award at the 2005 American Association for Higher Education's (AAHE) Annual Forum on Faculty Roles and Rewards in Atlanta, Georgia.
