 | Faculty Scholars Program to Offer $2,000 Service-Learning Stipends
Application Deadline Jan. 22, 2010
A Faculty Scholars program will offer $2,000 stipends for full-time LSU faculty interested in experiential education and effective strategies for engaging students in hands-on learning experiences that benefit the community.
The Center for Community Engagement, Learning, and Leadership (CCELL) offers the Faculty Scholars Program to promote interdisciplinary dialogue on service-learning, encourage departmental institutionalization of service-learning, and advance the objectives of the LSU Flagship Agenda. The deadline for proposals is Friday, Jan. 22, 2010.
Full-time faculty at the rank of instructor or above are eligible. The Council is seeking Scholars who represent a variety of disciplines and areas of expertise with varying degrees of familiarity and experience with service-learning.
Faculty who are selected for the program are expected to attend a weekly, 90-minute seminar where they, along with other scholars, will plan and discuss course design, civic responsibilities of universities, partnerships, liability, assessment, and reflection as they relate to service-learning courses.
Scholars will develop a service-learning course syllabus during the spring as they plan for summer 2010, fall 2010, or spring 2011 semesters. Scholars may choose to incorporate service-learning into a previously designed course or to develop a new course that includes service-learning. The LSU Service-Learning Advisory Council will select Faculty Scholars.
An application with instructions is available at the CCELL office in B-29 Coates Hall or may be downloaded online. For more information, call the CCELL office at 225-578-9264.
