Q: Where on campus is the Office of Student Media?
A: We are in the basement of Hodges Hall, which is just east of the football stadium on Fieldhouse Drive, between the Mass Communication Building and Hatcher Hall.

Q: Must I be a mass communication major to work in Student Media?
A: Jobs in Student Media are available to students without regard to major. Although many of our students are mass communication majors, other students are studying geography, engineering, design, computer science, English, etc.

Q: What are the requirements to be employed in Student Media?
A: To be a paid employee, the university requires that you be a full-time student who is in good standing with the university and who has a minimum 2.0 grade point average. Because many of our positions require specific skills, those positions may require competitive testing or specific work experience.

Q: How is Student Media funded?
A: We receive student fees, and supplement our funds with revenue from advertising and underwriting. We are a self-supporting auxiliary.

Q: Where does the Office of Student Media fit in the university structure?
A: Student Media is part of Student Life and Academic Services.

Q: Who decides what is printed in Student Media publications or broadcast on Student Media stations?
A: Students make the decisions on all content. Each unit has an adviser who is a University employee, but the adviser guides without controlling. The only exception is for KLSU-FM, the radio station, which must follow FCC regulations.

Q: If I do not like something that is printed or broadcast by a Student Media entity, who should I talk to?
A: Student editors/managers control the content of all Student Media outlets. In news and advertising content matters, the student editors and managers have the final say.

Questions or complaints about content should first be directed to the writer/reporter/announcer and to the editor/station manager/news director.

If you believe an editor or staff member is performing unethically or unprofessionally, please discuss your concerns first with the editor or manager, then with the professional staff adviser and the Director of Student Media. If you are still dissatisfied, you can contact a member of the Media Board to ask to have the matter placed on the agenda at the board’s next meeting. The Media Board cannot discipline editors or managers for content decisions.
