 | Residence Halls and Apartments
LSU has 17 residence halls with architectural styles ranging from a Renaissance style typical of the new Residential College Complex and the older core of the campus, to the modern style typical of the halls along Campus Lake.

Room Types
Residence hall rooms can generally be described in one of two ways. TRADITIONAL rooms, most common among the older halls, are usually large with high ceilings and free-standing furniture that you can arrange as you desire. All rooms are air-conditioned with window units in each room. MODERN rooms, common in newer halls with central air-conditioning, are more compact but maximize living space by using built-in furniture. Smoking is not permitted in rooms or any other areas in the residence halls.
Common Features
Most residence halls have ground floor lobbies and reception areas, kitchenettes and study rooms on each floor, and coin/card-operated laundries and vending machines. Larger buildings have change machines and coin-operated copiers. Ten halls have computer labs with PC's.
Phone Service
Local phone service is not automatically provided in the residence hall or apartment rooms, but local phone lines are still available at an additional cost. Students who want local phone service in their rooms can contract directly with Information Technology Services through their online PAWS account, or in-person at the Ed Frey Computing Services Building. Those wanting phone service will need to provide a phone set and related items you desire such as an answering machine. Student’s who want long distance service added to their account at an additional charge have two options; the “1+” dialing via TIGERCALL (an LSU service that can be added while contracting for local service), or by using “0+” dialing (when using other calling cards, credit cards and long distance companies).
Internet & Cable Service
Personal Ethernet high-speed data connections are available in all halls. Ethernet service is included in student rent. Standard cable TV service (78 channels) is also included in rent. Digital cable is available through Cox Communications located on the first floor of the LSU Union or at (225-615-2005).
Furniture
Whether traditional or modern, all rooms have single beds, study desks, bookshelves, and closet space. If you are assigned to a room with built-in furniture, you should not plan to bring extra furniture. If you choose one of the traditional rooms, however, you may want to bring a small chest or bookcase. A suggested size is 36" high X 30" wide x 15" deep.
Linens, Window Coverings, and Appliances
You must supply a pillow, mattress pad for a single bed, and bed and bath linens. The following items also come in handy: alarm clock, desk lamp, electric fan, iron, clothes hangers, laundry bag, wastepaper basket, window curtains, and carpeting. ALL CURTAINS, DRAPERIES, OR CARPETING MUST BE OF FIRE-RESISTANT MATERIAL. Window sizes vary from building to building, so you should wait until after you move in to purchase draperies or curtains. You may also bring a radio, stereo, television, personal computer, hair dryer, sewing machine, and/or refrigerator (capacity less than 5 cubic feet and 120 watts). EXTENSION CORDS MUST BE 16-GAUGE SINGLE HEAD SIZE ONLY. You are not allowed to bring a window air-conditioner, hot plate or other kitchen appliance, sun lamp, George Foreman type grills, or electric exercise machine. You should not use tape, adhesive strips, nails, or screws to hang things on walls or doors, but you may use white art gum.
Responsibility for Personal Belongings
The University does not assume any responsibility for any of your personal property which is stolen, lost, or damaged. An optional personal effects insurance policy is available and is highly recommended.
