  • Freshmen are required to take a GSRC section of ENGL 1001 in the fall semester if they do not receive incoming credit for it, along with one other course offered through GSRC. These may include GEOG 1003, HIST 1007, ANTH 1003, and/or RNR 1001.
  • Second-semester freshmen and all sophomores will normally enroll in two non-laboratory GSRC courses. Such courses may include HIST 1007, POLI 1001, POLI 2057, GEOG 2050, GEOG 2051, and CPLT 2202.
  • Exchange students visiting LSU will be scheduled into residential college courses on a case-by-case basis; most of the students will be upperclassmen and they may have already fulfilled requirements that would be satisfied by LSU residential college courses. Nevertheless, these students are encouraged to participate in the LSU residential college program even if they cannot enroll in two courses with their fellow residential college students. In lieu of courses, the students may be asked to deliver a presentation on their home country, or contribute to the program in some other way mutually agreed upon by the student and the Global Studies rector.

  • In the spring semester, students who did not complete ENGL 2123 will be pre-registered in that course, and they are also required to take at least one Herget math/science course.
  • All students who enroll in ENGL 2123 will be encouraged to co-register in HIST 1001 or POLI 1001, as the course content in these two courses is synergistic to ENGL 2123.
  • Students who do not wish to remain in ENGL 2123 can request a different Herget course. However, ENGL 2123 is strongly encouraged because of its value as a humanities/literature course that elaborates on themes covered in other Herget courses, and because of the skills that it offers in creating a digital portfolio that will serve as a framework for creating a professional portfolio of university work for employment purposes.
