Prospective Applicants
- Must be full-time students at LSU.
- Must have a minimum cumulative and semester GPA (grade point average) depending on the position, and not be on any type of probation.
- Must have completed a minimum of 24-hours of academic course work.
- In most cases, must live in residence halls or apartments operated by the department. (Occasional exceptions are made when residents with the required knowledge or experience are not readily available.)
Work Hours
- Most positions require a work schedule between 10 and 20 hours per week.
- Some positions can work during evenings or weekends.

Residential Life Student Staff serve a variety of roles in the Residence Halls Resident Assistants (RAs), Residential College Resident Assistants (RCRAs), Honors House Resident Assistants (HHRAs) and Information Technology Assistants (ITAs) are exposed to a variety of challenging and rewarding experiences throughout their time in the position. Without these student staff, the work of Residential Life would be impossible. The insights and abilities that you can bring our team are invaluable to the department and the university. The Resident Assistant Experience
A Resident Assistant (RA) is a student employed by the Department of Residential Life to live in a residence hall and work as part of a hall staff team in order to build a positive living and learning environment and community experience for residents. An RA serves as a communication link between the residents of the community and the Department of Residential Life. The RA reports directly to the Residence Life Coordinator. An RA is expected to know the residents in his or her community on a personal basis and to advise individuals and groups of residents on academic and personal matters. Each RA is expected to create and encourage activities and programs that enhance community and meet residents’ personal and academic needs. The RA serves as a role model for students in every aspect of University life and is expected to know various campus resources available to students.
RAs are employed in Miller Hall, McVoy Hall, Pentagon Halls (non-Residential College sections), Horseshoe Halls, East Campus Apartments, West Campus Apartments and all FIG Programs.
Resident Assistant Position Description
The Residential College Resident Assistant Experience
A Residential College Resident Assistant (RCRA) is a student employed by the Department of Residential Life to live in a Residential College residence hall. An RCRA works as part of a hall staff team in order to build an environment supporting the academic mission and objectives of the residential college and to create a positive community experience for residents. The RCRA serves as a communication link between the residents of the floor, the Department of Residential Life, and the Residential College Faculty. The RCRA reports directly to the Residence Life Coordinator.
An RCRA is expected to know the residents on his or her floor on a personal basis and to advise individuals and groups of residents on academic, community and personal matters. The RCRA will work in concert with the Department of Residential Life in the development of a purposeful academic residential community. The RCRA should promote a group experience that facilitates learning and academic success. Each RCRA serves as a role model for students in every aspect of University life and is expected to know various campus resources available to students.
RCRAs are employed in Herget Residential College, Broussard Information Technology Residential College, Business Residential College (West Hall), Engineering Residential College (South Hall), Global Studies Residential College (LeJeune Hall), Agriculture Residential College (Blake Hall), and Basic Sciences Residential College (Evangeline Hall).
Residential College Resident Assistant Position Description
The Honors House Resident Assistant Experience
An Honors House Resident Assistant (HHRA) is a student employed by the Department of Residential Life to live in the residential communities designated as the Honors House. An HHRA works as part of a hall staff team in order to build an environment supporting the academic mission and objectives of the Honors House and to create a positive community experience for residents. The HHRA serves as a communication link between the residents of the floor, the Department of Residential Life, and the Honors College Faculty. The HHRA reports directly to the Residence Life Coordinator.

HHRAs are employed in Honors Housing in East Laville and Acadian Hall.
Honors House Resident Assistant Position Description
The Information Technology Assistant Experience
An Information Technology Assistant (ITA) is a student employed by the Department of Residential Life to facilitate residents’ understanding and integration of coursework through the support of IT Residential College students’ course needs and technology requirements and development. The ITA reports directly to the Rector and the Residence Life Coordinator (RLC). The ITA is expected to know the residents on his/her floor and work in concert with the Residential College Resident Assistant (RCRA) staff to support the academic and personal development of the residents on that floor. The ITA is also assigned to specific faculty to provide technical support in the classroom and in the development of Reusable Learning Objects (RLOs). The ITA is also expected to provide directed support to the Rector and RLC in the development of the overall IT Residential College community.
ITAs are employed in Broussard Information Technology Residential College.
Information Technology Assistant Position Description
The FIG Experience
Freshmen Interest Groups (FIGs) provide first-year students a way to make LSU feel smaller in a unique residential environment. Small groups of approximately 24 residents live together and engage in linked courses and shared experiences. Resident Assistants for the FIG serve as upper-class role mentors who actively organize and participate in activities surrounding the FIG theme. They host study groups, interact with faculty, and plan a calendar of activities to meet the learning outcomes of the FIG.
Adventure Leadership
The Adventure Leadership FIG houses students interested in further developing their leadership skills while using the outdoors as a foundation for this development.
Housed in Beauregard Hall, we are looking for one male RA and one female RA to work with this FIG. Those RA candidates pursuing LSU’s Leadership Minor are ideal for this FIG.
Career Exploration
The Career Exploration FIG houses students who are undecided in their major and/or career interests.
Housed in McVoy Hall, we are looking for one male RA and one female RA who are eager to help first-year students explore major and career options.
Health Science FIG
The Health Science FIG houses students interested in pre-nursing, Allied Health, or related majors.
Housed in Annie Boyd Hall, we are looking for one male RA and one female RA to lead this community. An RA candidate who is a science or health-related major is preferred. Ideally, RA candidates will have successfully completed both Biology 1201/1202 and/or Chemistry 1201/1202.
Women in Wellness
The Women in Wellness FIG houses female students interested in healthy living and issues affecting today’s women.
Housed in Miller Hall, we are looking for one female RA to lead this community.

GRADUATE HALL DIRECTOR STAFF SELECTION
What is a Graduate Hall Director?
A Graduate Hall Director (GHD) is a graduate assistantship staff position in the Department of Residential Life. Under the supervision of a full-time professional Residence Life Coordinator (RLC), a GHD’s primary responsibilities involve the supervision and development of student staff members, basic administrative management of a residential community, and the coordination of programs and activities. GHDs have the opportunity to work with first year, upper-class and Residential College populations in traditional, suite-style and apartment communities. All GHDs live on-campus in a furnished apartment located within one of the nine established residential communities on campus.
How do I know if I am qualified for a Graduate Hall Director position?
All successful candidates should have:
· A bachelor’s degree, or have obtained a bachelor’s degree by the starting date of the assistantship
· Have at least 1 year of residence hall leadership experience
· Be accepted into a graduate college, and be enrolled as a full-time, degree-seeking, graduate student
· Possess excellent communication, organizational and teamwork skills

NICHOLSON/EDWARD GAY APARTMENTS STUDENT STAFF SELECTION:
Resident Manager (RM)
A Resident Manager serves Nicholson and Edward Gay Apartments and serves as the primary liaison between the mostly married and /or graduate/upperclass nontraditional student population and Residential Life. A Resident Manager lives within the community and takes an active role in the daily life of the area to which they are assigned. He/She assists residents with problems or concerns, enforces policy, reports maintenance issues, distributes notices and performs other administrative duties as required. Applicants must be full-time students with a cumulative GPA of 3.0, and be either married, a parent, or if single, be at least 22 years of age. These requirements reflect the nontraditional demographic makeup of the community. Additionally, the ideal applicant would also have lived within the apartment environment for at least one year. Applicants are required to have at least two full semester of residency remaining within the apartments in order to be considered for a position. There are seven positions, employed year-round, including summer breaks, scheduled holidays and periods between terms.
