This outreach focuses on the health and well-being of others. We work to help others improve their lives and to encourage better health. We aim to work with many organizations to promote good health and disease awareness, assist in blood drives and blood pressure screenings, and other health-related programs.

Project Update:

Events Completed: Komen on the Go (October 1, 2008)
We partnered with the LSU Student Health Center to assist with Komen on the Go which took place on October 1st. Komen on the Go is a program established by the Susan G. Komen foundation. It is a trailer that travels across the US during breast cancer awareness month. Students have the opportunity to watch a series of videos that are increase their awareness about breast cancer and other issues facing women today. Prior to the event we assisted the Health Center with promoting the event. The event was planned very quickly, so promotion of the event was very important to the Health Center. We posted fliers throughout the university as well as implementing a facebook event. At the event, volunteers assisted with setup and takedown. The Student Health Center also had a booth setup with pamphlets and information about breast cancer/general health issues. Volunteers were stationed at the booth and passed out the materials to students. Volunteers also assisted the Komen on the Go team by directing students and answering any questions they may have had about the program. Overall the event was very successful. The response was overwhelming. The trailer was full the entire time we were there and we passed out information to even more students. The Komen team commented that we had passed out more stickers and postcards than they had at anywhere else. I look forward to working with the Student Health Center in the future.
