 | Introduction
Welcome to the LSU community. We are excited to offer you the opportunity to participate in LSU's first Summer Reading Program, a program designed to introduce you to the academic and intellectual culture of the University through a common reading experience. The program will also give you a chance to meet faculty members and other new students as well as the opportunity to discuss the common text.
The book selected for this year is Eric Schlosser's Fast Food Nation: The Dark Side of the All-American Meal. Mr. Schlosser will speak at Academic Convocation on Friday, August 20, 2004, in the Pete Maravich Assembly Center (PMAC). All freshmen are required to attend the Academic Convocation and the discussion groups with faculty that follow. Bring your Tiger Card (student identification card) to the PMAC because attendance will be taken using your student ID; you will also be eligible to win one of the ten $250 LSU Bookstore gift certificates that will be given away at the Convocation as door prizes. Doors to the PMAC will open at 8:15 AM; please enter the PMAC through the Southeast Corridor doors and be in your seat by 8:45 AM.
We are proud to sponsor the LSU Summer Reading Program and know that this book will stimulate discussion during the coming year. |
