START Frequently Asked Questions:
|
Who can use START?
The services at START are free for all LSU students.
LSU staff or faculty: The START Program is primarily for LSU students because it is funded by the Student Tech Fee; therefore, students are given preference. However, if the workshop is not full you are most welcome to attend.
Information for non-LSU students: LSU Continuing Education (www.doce.lsu.edu), and the Cajun Clickers Computer Club (www.clickers.org) offer computer classes.
Is START a Public Access lab?
No. The START lab functions to facilitate students who want to improve their computer skills by attending a workshop or a tutoring session. For a list of public access labs, please go to http://appl006.lsu.edu/ocsweb/palhome.nsf/index
How do I register for START workshops?
There is no registration required. Just drop by the START lab for the workshop you want to attend. All workshops begin 10 minutes after the scheduled time. We operate on a first-come first-serve basis.
How many students can attend a class?
The START lab offers 16 workstations. Staff and faculty who are interested can request a workshop for their students. For more information, click on “Request a Workshop” on top of the page.
Which class do I begin with?
START workshops can be taken in any order. Most workshops are scheduled in pairs. Usually, the first workshop is a general introduction, and the second workshop is designed for more advanced users. If you have questions, please send an email to start@lsu.edu
How do I set up a tutoring appointment?
Just send an email to start@lsu.edu, call 578-4526 or come by B-26 Coates Hall.
How long is the appointment time?
A tutoring session is 30 - 60 minutes.
Depending on your question and your knowledge the session might be longer than 30 minutes. There is always an option to reschedule for a follow-up appointment.
What happens if I am late?
It’s important that you be on time. Tutors need to go to their next appointment or class and you short change yourself with a brief session. If you are more than 10 minutes late, your appointment will be canceled and given to the next client.
What should I do if I can’t keep my appointment?
Please notify the START lab (578-4526) as soon as possible and no later than two hours before your appointment, so that we can reschedule your time slot for a waiting student. | |
