Subject: STF Oversight Committee Information on FY 08-09 Discipline Specific Proposals
Since the creation of the Student Technology Fee (STF) in 1998, the primary emphasis of the STF Oversight Committee has been to fund the following three objectives of the STF Plan: (1) student access to state-of-the-art software, public computer laboratories, and e-mail; (2) state-of-the-art multi-media general purpose classrooms, and (3) instructional laboratories and studios with the most current equipment appropriate to teaching and learning in the various disciplines referred to as “discipline specific” projects.
Historically, STF funds have annually been allocated to each of these three broad areas. Due to, (1) the decreasing revenue generated from the STF, and (2) the increasing costs of providing services to students in the areas of public access computer labs, software, and multi-media classrooms, insufficient funds remain to fund the third objective . . . “discipline specific”. Therefore, the STF Oversight Committee has approved to suspend funding of objective (3) and will not seek “discipline-specific” proposals for FY 2008-2009. Should this funding issue change in the future, the Committee stands ready to again consider funding the “discipline specific” objective.
Should you have any comments, questions, and/or suggestions, please contact me and I will forward them to the STF Oversight Committee. Thank you for your continuing support and cooperation in using the STF funds to enhance student life and learning and preparing our graduates for the workplaces of the twenty-first century. |
