LSU graduating senior Anshul Tandon of New Delhi, India, will receive a University Medal at LSU’s Aug. 8 commencement ceremony. University Medalists are those graduates who have achieved the highest undergraduate grade-point average.

Tandon will also receive the LSU Distinguished Communicator Award, believed to be the first of its kind in the nation, during LSU’s 266th commencement exercises on Friday, Aug. 8. He earned this honor by meeting high standards set by faculty in various colleges and by the LSU Communication across the Curriculum, or CxC, program. Tandon earned high grade-point averages in communication-intensive courses – based on written, spoken, visual and technological communication – and built a digital portfolio, displayed as a public Web site, that includes communication projects from courses, internships, leadership roles and public service.

Tandon, who will receive a double major in computer engineering and computer science, is the son of Dr. U.S. Tandon and Dr. Anuruadha Tandon. He is the past president of Tau Beta Pi Engineering Honor Society and Eta Kappa Nu Electrical Engineering Honor Society. He holds the Tau Beta Pi, College of Engineering Alumni and Chevron-Texaco scholarships, among others. Fluent in Hindi, English and Japanese, Tandon has completed internships at both Microsoft and Google.
