| Anna Brown, a senior in the LSU Manship School of Mass Communication, has been named one of 12 2009 Meredith-Cronkite Fellows as one of the top minority broadcast journalism students in the country. The fellowship is part of a joint effort between the Meredith Corp., a national media and marketing company, and Arizona State University’s Walter Cronkite School of Mass Communication and Journalism. Meredith-Cronkite Fellows spend the week of Jan. 4-10, at KPHO CBS 5, a Phoenix television station owned by Meredith, working in the CBS 5 newsroom with KPHO reporters, producers, editors and videographers and instructors from the Cronkite School. The program is led by Mark Lodato, the Cronkite School’s TV news director and a former investigative reporter at CBS 5, and the CBS 5 news director. Of the 12 slots, only six are awarded to students outside of the Cronkite School, and students from universities outside of the region each receive a $2,000 stipend to cover expenses. Brown, a native of Slidell, sent in a DVD with samples of her work as part of the application process. She also earned a 2008 fellowship at the UNITY Journalism Conference in Chicago. “I feel really honored to have this opportunity to represent LSU and the Manship School at such a prestigious event,” said Brown. “To be the first student chosen from LSU, I feel extreme pride. Since I am graduating in May 2009, I'm hoping to make some great connections to line up a great job opportunity.” - 30 - |
