LBTC Named as a Finalist for International Award

03/25/2009 04:05 PM
BATON ROUGE – The LSU Louisiana Business & Technology Center was named a finalist for the National Business Incubation Association’s 2009 Incubator Innovation Award for its Business Incubator on Wheels program that offers entrepreneurship training to clients in rural, underserved areas and hurricane disaster recovery areas. The winner of the award will be announced April 21, at NBIA’s 23rd International Conference on Business Incubation in Kansas City, Mo.

LBTC Executive Director Charles D’Agostino commended the Mobile Classroom.

“This program brings business counseling and support services to entrepreneurs and small businesses in the underserved rural areas of Louisiana to foster economic growth and development,” D’Agostino said. “Our rural communities are losing population and business opportunities and this program is designed to reinvigorate those local economics with new job creation.”

The Mobile Classroom seats up to 24 people for workshops on topics such as how to start a business, leadership development, entrepreneurship training, business planning, marketing and gaining access to capital. In conjunction with local partners, including chambers of commerce and small business development centers and incubators, LBTC schedules workshops and seminars over three or four days that the Mobile Classroom attends.

The National Business Incubation Association is the world’s leading organization advancing business incubation and entrepreneurship. Each year, the NBIA Incubation Awards honor the business incubation programs, graduates and client companies that exemplify the best of the industry.

The Louisiana Business & Technology Center, an integral part of LSU’s E. J. Ourso College of Business’ Stephenson Entrepreneurship Institute, endeavors to enhance economic development in Louisiana through the support of existing small businesses and the development of new businesses. Established in 1988, the LBTC’s highly successful business incubator program has been honored as the National Business Incubator Association’s Incubator of the Year.
