LSU LBTC to Honor Tenants at  21st Anniversary Celebration

11/03/2009 03:33 PM
BATON ROUGE – The LSU Louisiana Business & Technology Center will celebrate its 21st anniversary at The Cook Hotel and Conference Center on Wednesday, Nov. 4, from 6-8 p.m. The celebration, titled “21 Years of Igniting Innovation,” will honor the accomplishments of the LBTC and the achievements of its small business incubator tenants.

“Our 2009 award winners have already been determined, and we are delighted that we have the opportunity to congratulate them for their early successes,” said LBTC Executive Director Charles D’Agostino. “We have seen successes like this for more than 20 years, and the LBTC’s ability to contribute to them continues to grow.”

Three tenants – Comprehensive Safety Solutions, LLC; Progressive Security Technologies, LLC; and Exeu-U-Store, LLC – are graduating from the incubator this year and will be honored along with the following LBTC former and current tenants:

  • LBTC Tenant of the Year – HydroFlame Technologies, developer of a new process for burning a flame inside a rotating body of water.
  • LBTC Graduate Company of the Year – CAP Technologies Inc., which is developing Electrolytic Plasma Technology, an effective surface engineering tool that combines cleaning and coating of metals.
  • Small Business Development Center Client of the Year (shared) – Floating Island Environmental Solutions, LLC, first license holder in the United States to manufacture and sell BioHaven Floating Islands of 25 square feet or greater, and Latte e Milele, LLC, modeled after a traditional Roman Gelateria. For the latter, Italian style coffee is brewed fresh to order, and gelato is prepared daily at the in-house laboratory.
  • Small Business Innovation Research Client of the Year – Evisive Inc., which has created a microwave non-destructive examination technology patented in the early 1990s.
  • Mobile Classroom Community of the Year – Abbeville, La.

In addition to the tenants listed above, special recognition will be given to Radiation Technical Services Inc. and General Informatics, LLC, both of whom were named recently in Inc. magazine’s Top 5000.

The Louisiana Business & Technology Center, an integral part of LSU’s E. J. Ourso College of Business’s Stephenson Entrepreneurship Institute, endeavors to enhance economic development in Louisiana through the support of existing small businesses and the development of new businesses. Established in 1988, the LBTC’s highly successful business incubator program has been honored as the National Business Incubator Association’s Incubator of the Year and with the U.S. Department of Commerce–Economic Development Administration’s Excellence in Economic Development 2009.
