| Associate Dean for Research Mehmet T. Tumay of the College of Engineering was instrumental in negotiations for LSU to enter into agreements or memoranda of understanding with four international universities. The agreements will provide for faculty exchange, student exchange and joint projects between LSU and participating institutions. The universities involved are: Federal University of Vicosa, Vicosa, Brazil; Technical University of Istanbul, Istanbul, Turkey; Bogazici University, Istanbul, Turkey; and Eastern Mediterranean University, Famagusta, N. Cyprus. The faculty exchange members may visit a sister university for up to one year, either as visiting professors or as research scholars, and will receive the same salary and benefits as from their home university. Both undergraduate and graduate students may participate in the exchange and may attend the host university for one year to continue their education. Exchange students will have the same rights and privileges as all visiting students at the host university. Tumay said he is already getting inquiries about the program. "These agreements significantly expand the opportunities for research and for student and faculty exchange at LSU. Thanks to the contacts and efforts of associate dean Tumay, two unique and culturally rich areas of the world have been opened to LSU," said Job Serebrov, director of International Programs at LSU, who worked with Tumay. Funding for the program will be provided by the participating universities. The individual agreements, or memoranda of understanding, were signed by Chancellor Mark Emmert and the president and/or rector of the respective universities. The documents are available at the Office of the Associate Dean for Research and Graduate Studies. # # # |
